A Very Gearing Gift Guide

As the festive season falls upon us, we thought we would share some of our favourite photography items from this year, be it items we’ve been using and loving, or ones that have caught our eye and left us lusting after. As we all know, the camera world is an expensive world to live in, and therefore our gift guide does reflect this. However, we have endeavoured to find some more kindly priced items, so that our guide has something for everyone, from the frugal first time photographer to the extravagant professional.

Billingham Bags

Arguably making some of the most beautiful camera bags in the world since 1973, and also our neighbours in the Leica flagship store in London, a Billingham Bag is a must have for any quintessentially stylish photographer.

Urth Filters

With their beautiful packaging, unique filters and putting nature at the forefront of their work model, Urth are a really special company that us Gearing girls admire. My absolute favourite of theirs is the Stellar filter kit, which adds a starburst filter onto your images. The perfect Christmas gift!

Lowa  Boots

Our friends at LOWA kindly gave us some boots for our photoshoots this year, and they have received plenty of love from us both in front of and away from the camera, particularly up in the highlands of Scotland. These boots are not only super comfortable and supportive, but they look great too. A really worthwhile investment and one we couldn't recommend more.

Aquapac Waterproof Camera Cover

Though it is a little bit chilly to be diving underwater with your camera at this time of year in the UK, Aquapac’s waterproof camera cover fits a huge range of DSLR cameras and is highly regarded in the camera industry. It would be a great gift for a photographer heading for some winter sun, or a brave Brit in the winter and spring!

Loupedeck+

Founded in Finland in 2016, Loupedeck have revolutionised photo and video editing, giving you a tactile and ergonomic way of bringing your photos to life. Being super user friendly, they are a great
choice for someone just starting out in editing, or a seasoned pro to help them speed up the process.

WANDRD

Another amazing company who so kindly gave Elle two camera bags, WANDRD was created in 2015 by three brothers in Utah, who wanted to inspire people to travel and further their passion for photography. Their stylish yet highly functional backpacks have cemented their status as some of the best on the market. For a company like Gearing who prioritises travel and looks, they are a dream come true.

IntrepidCamera

During our time at The Photography Show in Birmingham a couple of months ago now, we met Maxim the founder of Intrepid Camera. They make easy to use and fairly affordable large format cameras, which brings a whole new dimension to analogue photography. All of their cameras are assembled in house in Brighton, and they particularly enjoy how this style of photography makes you focus solely on the here and now.

Patagonia

Patagonia is globally renowned as the best outdoor clothing brand in the world. They were kind enough to send Elle a haul of clothing while skiing and again for our Gearing photoshoots. The quality is unparalleled whilst not compromising on style, and they give 1% of all of their sales to a variety of non profit charities working to save our planet. We love their Retro Pile Fleeces, the perfect gift to keep a loved one warm this winter.

Polaroid Mobile Printer

Although not so much one for the professional photographer, these are a great gift for anyone with a smartphone. Simply connect to wifi and you can print photos from your mobile phone, a great idea to bring to a party!

The Gearing Company Tripod

We couldn't complete a gift guide without mentioning yours truly. The ultimate travel tripod, giving you your ski poles, trekking poles and wading staff in one. From several of our very happy customers we can guarantee that this is a brilliant gift for a loved one, especially the discerning photographer. Not only does our tripod transform into the ultimate outdoor trifecta, it is fully field serviceable and weighs in at just 1.4kg. Why not add in our trek kit for a truly special gift.

We hope that you have been inspired by this little list of ideas - let us know if you have any suggestions for presents for a photographer this Christmas!
